WOMEN CRICKETERS

English Team Arrives “New Zealand isi grand,” in the enthusiastic opinion of Miss Archdale, the captain of the English women’s cricket team. In the midst of all the excitement of the team’s arrival at Wellington, and the reading of home mail, a representative of "The Dominion” found a quiet corner in which to talk for a few moments with Miss Archdale.

“How do you like New Zealand?” (a question asiked with firm assurance) brought the very .definite reply that begins this article. “New Zealand,” Miss Archdale continued, “seems immense in its scenery, although we have covered the ground so quickly. The games already played during the tour have made the team look forward eagerly to the Test match against New Zealand.”

Very brown after their Australian trip, and full of interest in everything and everyone they see, the team members, most of whom are sports mistresses from English girls’ colleges, have an enthusiasm that is Infectious. Not only for their game, but for the close acquaintance they are making with the people they meet. They were brisk, breezy and businesslike, even through all the hubbub of arrival. The girls of the Wellington team who welcomed them at their hotel eyed bronzed arms and workmanlike shingles (most of them have eton crops) with some faint stirrings of alarm. “Aren’t they tall?” one remarked; and another, “What a great game we’ll have against them to-morrow.” A certain amount of sight-seeing is to be squeezed into the team’s stay at Wellington, but the programme for their entertainment must of necessity be limited.
