Name of Scotland’s Bard
Sir, —I should like to protest against tho prevalent misuse of Robert Burns's name. To hear him called “Bobbie” by some so-called elocutionists and lecturers sets a true Scotsman’s teeth on edge. The diminutive of Robert in Scotland is Robbie or Rab, never “Bobbie.” As well speak of “Bill” Shakespears as Bobbie Burns. This misnomer is a hall-mark of ignorance, and is never used by a Scot when speaking of his national bard.—l am, etc., CLAN RANALD Wellington.
