BOXER RETAINS TITLE
Thil Outpoints McAvoy Paris, January 14. In a 15 rounds contest for the European cruiserweight championship Marcel Thil, tlie holder, outpointed Jock McAvoy, an Englishman. Pressed in the opening rounds, Thil forced the pace in the fourth, severely punishing his opponent with right and left hooks, and continued scoring witl) body blows. McAvoy rallied in tlie seventh, fiercely sending in his left. Much in-lighting resulted in Thil’s ear bleeding, in tlie ninth McAvoy, with superior foot-work, evaded the danger zone. Thil in tlie tenth jumped out of his corner and sent McAvoy to the ropes with a series of hooks to the body, and maintained a vigorous attack all through the round. This resulted in tlie Englishman weakening. After that McAvoy fought gamely, but was unable to stall off the Frenchman’s sledge-hammer body blows, by which he was sent down twice in the fourteenth and was saved by the gong at the count of five. Thil was triumphantly aggressive in the fifteenth.
