STUD RAM SALE

Two Sellers Get 102lgns. For Romneys PRICES AT FEILDING Dominion Special Service. Fciltling, January JJ. The seventh annual Manawatu and West Coast stud sheep sale at the Pending showgrounds to-day attracted tin entry of 40 stud Southdown rams and 138 stud Romney rams. There was a good attendance of buyers from a wide area and bidding for good quality rams was brisk. Of the 138 stud Romney rams offered G 8 were sold under the hammer at an average price of 351gns. and 70 were passed. Top price o£ the sale was 102igns., received by both AV. F. Jacob and Son and Short’s Parorangi Estate Of the 40 stud Southdown rams offered only nine were sold under the hammer. The sale of this breed was probably affected by the auction at Palmerston North yesterday of rams from an old-es-tablished flock. The top price in this section was 55gns. paid for Messrs. Hugh Burrell and Son’s Pariroa entry. Mr J. Knight’s Alatatua WC> of 1932 was sold for 50gns. The average price for the nine rams sold was just over 37gns. The Romney rams which were offered for sale were all certified by the Romney Alarsh Sheep Breeders’ Association inspectors. They came forward in excellent condition and found a free market. Only the best quality animals were sought and animals that wore not from old-es-tablished flocks did not meet with a ready demand. Passings were numerous, bnt on the whole the prices received were satisfactory for vendors. Prices were as follow: — Southdowns. A/c A. C. Vile (Bulls): One to N.
