TITLE RETAINED
Petersen Defeats Gains London, September 10. At the White City, in a 15-round bout for the Empire heavyweight boxing championship, Jack Petersen, the holder, defeated Larry Gains, who retired in’ the thirteenth round. A record attendance of 64,000 saw the fight. Petersen forced the pace. Although Gains showed cleverer ringcraft, which enabled him to avoid much heavy punishment, Petersen landed terrific blows in the thirteenth. Gains reeled at the gong and staggered to his corner. The towel was thrown in. At the White City in eight rounds George Cook outpointed Andre Lenglet, a Frenchman, although Lenglet had the advantage of height and reach.
