ICE-CAP CROSSED
British Arctic Expedition in Greenland LONG SLEDGE JOURNEY (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 10. The British Arctic Expedition arrived at Angmagsallk, Greenland, on Saturday after 1000 miles’ journey by dog sledge across the Greenland icecap. The leader of this is Lieutenant Martin Lindsay,-and he had only two companions on the perilous journey. The expedition was engaged in a further exploration of the mountainous area which entailed a crossing at its widest part of the ice-cap, which is about 9000 ft. high. The expedition left Copenhagen for Greenland last spring, and set off on its long journey from the Anvankel base at the end of June. Some anxiety had been expressed at the absence of news of its arrival on the east coast, but the explorers had told their friends before starting that .they would not reach Angmagsalik until between September 6 and 10.
