Vice-Regal. The Governor-General returned to Wellington last evening from a visit to AVanganul., Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe was the guest of the Lyceum Club at a reception hpjld yesterday afternoon. Captain R. C. S. Hammond, Auck- . land, is visiting Wellington. Professor R. Lawson, of the University of Otago,. arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday morning. Air. C. Trimnell, Wellffigton, was among those who left for the south by last evening’s steamer express. Dr. M. B. M. Tweed, Heretaunga, returned from the south by yesterday morning's steamer express. -Squadron-Leader T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services, left for the south last evening by the MaorL ■ Professor J. Shelley, of Canterbury College, was among the passengers who arrived at Wellington yesterday from the sdiith.
Mr. H. J. Buck, manager for New Zealand of Lysaght and Co., has returned to AVcllington from the South Island.
The Rev. Canon Percival James, vicar of St. Paul’s Pro-catnedral, has been appointed vicar-general of the Diocese of Wellington. ,
The Ven. Archdeacon A. L. Hansell has been appointed Archdeacon of Wellington in succession to the late Archdeacon Johnson.
The Rev. W. Bullock, vicar of St. Peter’s, Wellington, has been appointed Archdeacon of Wairarapa in succession to Archdeacon Hansell. Mr. J. W. G. Brodie, of British and Dominion Traders Ltd., left for the north by last evening’s Limited express.
Air. George Cooper, head of the firm of F. Cooper, Ltd., has returned from a visit to South Africa. He visited Cape Town, Johanliesburg, and went as far north as the Victoria Falls. Mr. T. AV. Mitchell, manager of the Tlmaru branch of the United Insurance Company, Ltd., has been advised of his appointment as Southland manager of the company. Councillors J. Burns and T. Brindle, Mr. J. O’Shea (city solicitor), Mr. E. P. Norman (town clerk), Mr. H. Leah (workshop director), Captain T. Herd, Air. Norman Aitken and Air. K. Kennedy have been appointed vice-presi-dents of the AVellington Tramways Baud.
Archdeacon F. W. Chatterton, vicar of St. Luke’s, Rotorua, has intimated to the Bishop of AVaiapu his intention to retire from his ministry at the end of the present year. The archdeacon has been at Rotorua for nearly sixteen years. He had previously spent seventeen years in the training of Maori clergy at Te Ran College, Gisborne. following sixteen years’ service in the Nelson diocese.
