Competitions Festival JUDGES ALL PLEASED Yesterday’s Comment According to the general tenor of their remarks, the judges in the Wellington Competitions festival continue to be pleased with the high standard of performances among the competitors. Yesterday again there was arranged an interesting programme of song, dance, elocution and instrumental work. He was glad to announce he had heard some very fine performances during the day, said the judge of the vocal classes, Hr. E. Bennett North. “There was a regular scramble as to who were to get into the final,’’ Mr. North said, commenting on the ladies’ English folk song class. There had been certainly more than two outstanding performances, he added. Mr. North expressed disappointment with the vocal duet class, saying he had expected something a little better; the girls’ song section he also considered below standard, although in all instances the recalled competitors had done very well. Mr. Ray Trewern, winner in the men’s Scottish folk song class, had a most appealing voice, he said, and gave an enjoyable performance. Howlett Roes, commended several of those who were recalled. The place-win-ners in the boys’ test recital had both chosen lino poems and had done well with them, he said. Mr. Barton Ginger, who-judged the recitations of girls under nine years, said the standard had been high for the ago limit.
