Scrummage Interpretation MOVE BY REFEREES The Wellington Rugby Referees' Association advised the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last night that it had decided to submit the following interpretation of the scrummage rule to the New Zealand Referees’ Association, with the request that that body make the ruling general throughout, the Dominion: — ; “That the ball is not fairly in the scrummage unless it is on the ground before it passes the first two feet on the side from which the ball is put in.” The committee decided to refer this proposal to the New Zealand union for a definite ruling. The junior advisory committee, recommended the appointment of the following as selectors of lower-grade representative teams for the season': — Juuior: Messrs. F. Bezzaiit (Athletic), A. Richardson (Johnsonville). E. Draper (Melrose-Selwyn). Third: Messrs. E. Bray (Old Boys), I. Thompson (Pet one), L. Pudney (Eastbourne). Fourth: Messrs. J. Thompson (Wellington), F. Thomas (Technical), L. W. Wilson (Hutt). Fifth: Messrs. J. Spence (Petone),’ T. Booker (Poneke), Satherley (Berhampore). Sixth: Messrs. W. P. Coles (Petone), C. Chamberlain .(Miramar), L. A. ' Yates (Wellington). Seventh: Messrs. K. Mclntyre (Hutt), W. Brown (Miramar), F. Lindsay (Berhampore). The committee approved the junior advisory committee’s recommendation. An application from the Mercantile Cricket League for the use of Athletic Park during the, summer was referred to the grounds committee for a report. The following transfer was granted: —H. N. Avery, Old Boys to Eastbourne.’ The following matches were arranged for Saturday week, May 19, ground for senior A, first division matches to be fixed next week:— SENIOR A. First Division. Athletic v. Hutt. Petone v. Poneke. Marist. v. Wellington. Eastbourne v. Old Boys. Second Division. Oriental v. University, Athletic Park, early. Johnsonville v. Onslow, Nairnville Park. Miramar v. Melrose, polo ground. St. Patrick’s v. Berhampore, Wakefield Park. SENIOR B. Hutt v. Porirua, Porlrua; Poneke v. Wellington, town ground; Eastbourne v. Athletic, ground to be arranged later; Petone v. Upper Hutt, Maidstone Park; Oriental v. Old Boys, town ground; University v. Marist, town ground. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION At the meeting of the Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association on Monday night Messrs. J. Prendeville and J. N. Millard, of the union's management committee, attended and gave fl lecture on the interpretation of the scrummage rule. Mr. D. McKenzie spoke on the obstruction rule.
