Military Aviation (From “The Dominion,” May 7, 1009) Captain J. W. Dunne, ot the Royal Engineers, is the inventor of an aeroplane which has been mysteriously tested in the Scottish hills. One flight covered twelve miles. This was the reason the British War Office did not approach the Wright Brothers earlier. The Wrights on Monday visited Mr. Haldane, Secretary for War. and next day inspected s’x of their aeroplanes, which are being constructed i'n the Aero Club’s grounds at the Isle of Sheppey. A new type of dirigible balloon for .the British has" made a successful flight at Aidershot. Wireless telegraph stations have beenset UP on the roofs of the WaldorfAstoria Hotel in New. York and the Audotorium Annex in Chicago. . Press messages were exchanged between the two cities. Mr. David Mitchell Luckie. formerly Commissioner for the Government Life Insurance Department, and a gentleman who has played an interesting, part in journalism in New Zealand, died at nis res’dence in Wellington at 6.30 last evening. after an illness lasting over two or three months.
