INSURANCE DIPLOMAS
New Zealand Institute EXAMINATION RESULTS Presentation of members’ certificates; and diplomas earned at the recent examinations was made at a meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Institute, held ,in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute building recently. Over the whole of the 1933 examinations in New Zealand and Australia, it was stated, the New Zealand institute had had a comparatively low percentage of failures. Last year, it was stated, only four candidates secured the degree in the life branch throughout Australia and' New Zealand,'three, of whom were members of the institute. They were Messrs. D. M. Hay and W. T. Marshall, of Wellington, and Mr. C. A. Blazey, who is secretary of the centre at Christchurch. The certificates presented were as follow Messrs. W. T. Marshall and D. M. Hay, certificates in part 2 and diploma; and Messrs. C. S. Clark, M. C. Hill, H. N. Potter, and R, M. Wood, certificates In part one. In his address to the meeting the president, Mr. H. P. Hopkins said he was confident the institute had amply fulfilled the objects of its formation, and that each session in turn would produce even greater results than the past. Members were aware of the successes in the last examinations, and from the numbers of students entered for this year’s examinations and the zeal with which they had commenced their studies he had no doubt that their successes would be even greater than before. Sub-centres. had been formed Ln Christchurch and Dunedin, and in other centres steps were being taken. The need for technical .training, in insurance was ever present, and the examinations supplied the stimulus for this training. The membership continued to show a steady increase. The institute had now a total enrolment of 572, comprising 268 life office members and 304 representing fire and accident insurance.
Mr. Hopkins reviewed In informative fashion various phases of the insurance business.
