Masterton Settlers Concerned Dominion Special Service. Masterton. May 8. “ Sitting as the Te Ore Ore River Board this afternoon, the Masterton County Council met a deputation from the Te Ore Ore district comprising Messrs. W. McGovern and A. Stewart which entered a protest against the council as a river board not doing anything to protect their -lands against flooding The chairman. Mr. W. J. Armstrong, gave an assurance that everything possible would be done, and it was decided to ask an engineer to meet settlers in connection with the work required Both members of the deputation detailed work they had carried out themselves in an endeavour to stop the encroachment of the river on their lands. They did not feel, however, (hat they should carry out the work themselves, and said they would like to see rhe river board do something in the matter. An instance was cite,d where the river had taken about an acre of land during the last flood. The position had assumed a serious aspect. After the deputation had retired Cr J. W. A. Falloon said lie thought there was a good deni of justification in what Messrs. McGovern mid Stewart had said. Something would have to be done mid done quickly. Following some further discussion it was decided that mi engineer meet settlers concerned. If was stated that it would he possible to put the necessary work in hand nt nn earlv date.
