“Over-ridden by Chairman” MASTERTON DISCUSSION Dominion Special Service. Masterton, May 8. . .An emphatic 'protest against allegedly being, over-ridilen , by. the chairman. Mr. W,’ -I. Armstrong, in affairs concerning his riding, was entered by Cr. G. Moore, at a meeting, of the Masterton County Council this, afternoon,. • The matter arose wheu Cr. Moore referred to the employment of 20 extra full-time men in Uriti riding, which would mean an additional expenditure of about £2OO on that riding. He felt thnt any opinions voiced by riding councillors should be ■ viewetl favourably. ■ An etnbarrassiug- position had arisen, he said, from the fact lhat the estimates had nor been considered when the men; were first employed. He considered that the increased expenditure would result in increased rates, and flint , was just what he wished to guard against. He asked if ft were possible to alter the position. Mr. Armstrong: You will have to give notice of motion seven days before the next meeting. Cr. Moore: That will embarrass me still more; Anyway I am not going to have the rates raised. Several councillors voiced the opinion that they did not wish to see rates raised, and that probably if. there were any difficulties they could be overcome. Cr. Moore objected to being: overridden by Mr. Armstrong in matters concerning his rifling, and asked that bis protest be placed on record. It was pointed out by Mr. Armstrong that the council was responsible for the whole work within the county. and councillors were there to bring forward matters pertaining to their respective ridings
