Aid For Needy Families WORK OF PAST MONTH At a meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, held on Friday, the chairman, ;Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., referred to correspondence which had been received from the various blind cases in the community for assistance in the form of clothing, medicines, wireless, difficulties in regard to meeting, payments to advances to settlers on their homes, and in one case defraying the cost of painting his. house. In eachcase the requisitions had been met. The secretary, Captain MI.S. Gallo-' way, produced an anonymous letter containing a clipping from a local paper of a relief worker applying for bed covering, for which he was prepared to give hard work, The secretary stated that with the existing relief organisations he felt that such , a case, would receive relief if application .was made. Further, that if the letter was. genuine the person writing would certainly subscribe his name to .it. Reports were received from the Red "Cross nurses, Sisters Lewis and Aitken, stating that .classes in flnsb aid and, home nursing were: being carried on at ■Wellington East Girls’. College, Petone, Memorial College, Petone .West, School,. ■Wellington Girls’ College, Northland School, Hutt Central School, Petone Convent, Hutt, . Valley District High School, Lyall Bay School, and Sacred .Heart Convent—more than 1006 students being under training. in spite of the wet weather on Anzac Day . the pa rade of the members: of the Voluntary Aid Detachment and Junior Red Cross members at the Ceno- : taph was well attended. Though the parade was cancelled, members fell in ■■ and marched to the Cenotaph and placed floral tokens on it.
