Toll in Britain Another substantial increase in the number of persons who were killed or injured on the roads is shown in the oflieial return for 1933 of Road Accidents Caused by Vehicles and Horses. In Great Britain last year 7202 people were killed, compared with 6667 the previous year—an increase of 535. The total number of Injured was 216,328, compared with 206,450; and accidents numbered 191,782, as against 184,006. The total number of killed and injured was 223,530, compared with 218,530, compared with 218,117 —an increase of 10,413. The figures for England and Wales alone are even more unsatisfactory, for In Scotland there was a decrease of one in the number of killed. The total number of accidents resulting in killed or injured in England and Wales was 175,738, compared with 167,752 the previous year. The number killed was 6498, agafnst 5962; the number of injured, 198,539, compared with 1S8,68O; arid the number of killed and injured, 205,037, against 194,642. In Scotland the killed numbered 704, against 705; injured. 17,789, against 17,770; and total accidents, 16,04£, compared with 16,254. ■' In London City. In the Metropolitan Police district there was an increase in both the number of killed and Injured, killed numbering 1441, against 1266, and injured 56,912, compared with 52,447. In the London City Police distret there was a small decrease in injured from 739 to 710, and the number of killed, 17, was the same. Wales had a total of 279 killed, compared with 295, and injured 8013, against 7583. Of the 7202 killed in Great Britain 2167 were attributed to private cars, compared with 1914 the previous year; to motor-vans, lorries. etc., 1438, against 1346; solo motor-cycles, 940, against 995: solo motor-cycles with pillion passenger 221, against 194; motor-omni-buses ami coaches? 566, against 591; electric tramcars and trolley-omnibuses, 109, against 87; and cabs, 74, the same. Of thes 216,328 Injured 72.378 were attributed to private cars, against 68,523 the previous year; to motor-vans, lorries, etc. 28,950 (26,208); to motorcvcles, solo without pillion passenger, 27,186 (30,045). with pillion passenger, 12 798 (14.355). with side-car, 7458 (7587) ; to motor-omnibuses and coaches, 9690 (9762); to tramcar and trolly-omnibuses, 4297 (4065): and to cabs. 2140 (2102).
