HUTT RED CROSS BALL

An Outstanding Success MANY DANCERS PRESENT That the Red Cross ball Is one of the most popular social functions of the year at Lower Hutt was evident from the large attendance at this year’s ball, which was held in the King George Theatre last night. Judging from the appearance of the theatre and the number which attended, the ball was as outstanding a success as previously. Softly-folded curtains draped the sides of the hall, which were relieved by artistically-arranged ferns and palms. Fronds of greenery flanked the balcony, in the middle of which was a large red cross. Erom the ceiling, multi-hued chandeliers shed a subdued radiance on the dancers below, who gyrated around a central stand covered with flowers. The orchestras were situated on the .stage, which was decorated with strands of greenery mingled with palms. In oue floral bower in the hall stood a large bowl of goldfish illuminated from beneath by a soft lamp. Music was supplied by Bolton’s orchestra and Miss Ivy Lewis’s orchestra. Mr. N. T. Gillespie was M.C; Luring the evening the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, expressed thanks on behalf of the Mayor’s relief committee and the local Red Cross Society to all who had assisted.
