LORRY OVER BANK
Occupants Escape With Minor Injuries DROP OF FORTY FEET Dominion Special Service. Otaki, May 6. Impaired control of the steeringgear of a 30ewt. truck, due to the bursting of a tire, was responsible for a 40-foot plunge of the vehicle down an overhanging bank on the Rahul Road, about four miles from Otaki. The lorry, which is used in the collection of cream for the Minuiknu Dairy Factory, was proceeding along the Rahui Road, laden with cans, from the direction of Otaki. It had just negotiated a sharp rise nt a bond of the road, and was preparing to lake the descent on the other side, when, on the intervening few yards of level ground, the left-hand front tiro burst, causing the lorry to skid. The vehicle wheeled round and fell backward over the bank on the right-hand side of Iho road. Crashing , through fern and scrub, it came to rest In the bed of a small stream. 1 Neither of the two occupants of the cab was seriously hurt, each escaping with minor cuts and bruises. The cab and windscreen of the lorry were smashed. Salvage operations, which owing to the awkward nature of the place will be difficult, have had to be deferred until to-day on account, of bad weather.
