EAST GIRLS’ COLLEGE
Parents’ Association SERVICE DURING YEAR The work and progress during the year of the Wellington East Girls’ College were reviewed last evening when the Parents’ Association of the college held its annual meeting. In the absence of the president, Mr. W. E. Jackson, the chair was taken by Mr. G. P. Anderson. In his address, Mr. Anderson referred particularly to the work of the ladies’ auxiliary of the association, expressing the opinion that, while the two bodies were part of the same organisation, it had been proved beneficial to have a separate women’s organisation working for • the college. The annual report, he continued, did not indicate fully the value of the work achieved in improving the grounds and buildings of the college as the actual money spent on materials and labour had been smaller than would otherwise have been the case because of the assistance of the unemployed relief scheme In making a large amount of labour available. Mention should also be made of the assistance given by Mr. T. W. Attwood in connection with the rock garden, Mr. Anderson said. Large quantities of plants,' together with their assistance in planting, had been given by the Rock Garden Society. 'Mr. W. H. Denton, representing the board of governors, said that the board could not find money for other than essentials, but it endeavoured to subsidise the efforts of the parents’ association as far as was possible. He was doubtful whether any other* school could boast such a measure of improvement as had. been achieved by the association during its short life, and paid a special tribute to the energy and direction of the president. It was decided to place on record the meeting’s appreciation of the great work done by the president and to elect him and Mrs. Jackson life members of the association. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. C. E. Proctor; vice-presidents, Mrs., Marshall and Messrs. T. N. Denton and K. E. Luke; hon. secretary, Mr. G. P. Anderson; hon. treasurer, Mr. F. Turner; hon. auditor, Mr. H. M. Bolton; executive committee, Mesdames Andrews, Beil. Chatfield, Morgan, Russell, Turner and Woodward, and Messrs. Bacon, Broad, Heron, Kean, Parton, Pcftersen arid Shakes. After the formal meeting, Miss Edna Parton, Miss Mavis Windsor, Mrs. Wilfred Andrews, and Mr. N. Macauley gave a short entertainment programme.
