Twenty Planes Take Part PICNIC FLIGHT OVER FRANZ JOSEF GLACIER By Telegraph.—Press Association. Grcymouth, March 18. 'Three thousand spectators inside the Hokitika aerodrome and nearly as many outside witnessed the, South Island air pageant on Saturday. There was excellent weather and twenty aero, planes took part. Results are as follow :— Transport race: P. MeGafiin (Moth), Palmerston North, 1; Adams (Mollit, Canterbury, 2. Senior landing competition: Walker (Moth), Palmerston. North, 1; Nankevill (Spartan), Hokitika. 2: Anderson (Moth), Wellington, 3. Junior landing: MeGafiin, 1; Hall (Moth), Wairarapa, 2: Miss Montgomery (Moth), Canterbury, 3. Aerobatics (open): Walker, 1; Hall, 2.

Open landing competition: Captain Mercer, Canterbury, syds. short, 1; Lieut. Bolt, Wellington, 19yds. short, 2; Squadron-Leader McGregor, 23yds. short, 3. Also competed: Flying-Offi-cer Duffey (Dunedin), 25yds. short; Buckeridge (Wairarapa), 27yds. short; Nankevill and R. Mathieson (Hokitika), 40yds. over. The New Zealand “Herald” Navigation Cup was contested by A. W. Nisbet and K. W. Anderson (Wellingtph) and MeGafiin. but the award is not yet available.

Between events the public kept the planes busy with pleasure flights, while stunts by Squadron-Leader McGregor, Flight-Lieutenant: Bolt, and FlyingOfficer Buckeridge proved exciting. To-day all the visiting planes joined a picnic flight to Franz Josef Glacier, landing at Waiho.
