J.P. MAKES PROTEST
Sterilisation Resolution By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 17. As a'protest against the passing at the justices of the peace conference of a resolution favouring sterilisation of the eugenically unfit, the Hon. C. J. Carrington, though retaining his justice’s commission, has resigned from the Auckland branch of the association. “The legislative results of a hysterical eugenic agitation,” he states in a letter to the registrar, “will be tyranny and the disregard of personal liberty by means of this arbitrary State inquisition without which the enactment would'be unworkable.”
Mr. Carrington states'that the classification of the unfit is a very wide one. “The object of the association,” he adds, “is repugnant to the Christian foundation of our country’s laws and the traditions of justice. It is tantamount to changing from the worship of God to the worship of man.”
