BUSY DAY IN PORT
Many Vessels Moving At 7 o’clock yesterday morning there was only one overseas vessel in port at Wellington, but by noon there were six. ? Wednesday and Thursday were slack days on the waterfront, but yesterday was one of the busiest this year, not only for the number of vessels moving, but also for the actual amount of work offering on the wharves. Seventeen vessels arrived in port during the day, and twelve left port. The arrivals included the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Remnera from Isyttel l ton, and the C. and D. Line steamer Port Victor, also from Lyttelton, both to load for. London; the Shaw. Savill motor-ship Zealandic from Auckland, also to load for London, the Canadian National steamer Canadian Victor, from Sydney to load for New York, Boston, and Halifax, and the Union Company’s Marama, back from her Marlborough Sounds cruise. Already in port was the Shaw, Savill liner Mataroa, loading for London. The only big ship to leave port yesterday was the Marama for Sydney. Five more overseas and intercolonial vessels are due at Wellington between to-day and next Tuesday, so that the wharves should be very active until well on into next week.
