CAT GIVES ALARM
Occupants of Burning House Awakened Dominion Special Service. Auckland, February 2. A tragedy was narrowly- averted at an early morning fire to-day, when Mrs. W. T. Luxton was awakened by a cat jumping on her bed to find her house nt Matangi in flames. "With two farm hands, Mrs. Luxton just had time to leave the building before its total destruction. Mr. Luxton, who is a prominent Jersey breeder, was away at the Wliangarei Show. On seeing the room full of smoke, and hearing the crackling of the flames, Mrs. Luxton quickly awoke the two men, but with the high wind fanning the blaze there was no time to attempt to save anything. They made a hurried exit. The house was soon enveloped in flames, and before long was a smouldering mass of ruins.
