In the'Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales, Victoria, after making 407 runs in their first innings, lost five for 274 in the second innings (Woodfull 11. Darling 93. Scaife SO. Rigg 35, Bromley 33 not out, Barnett 13 not out). O'Reilly took two for 33, •Hill two for 52. apt! Theak oue for 47. New South Wales, Who declared iu the first innings with eight wickets down for 672. won the match on the first innings, hut Victoria wins , the Sheffield Shield. Only an outright* victory in this match would have enabled New South Wales to retain the shield, but the Victorians, by stonewalling, prevented this. (
