Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, left yesterday for Rotorua, where he will spend the Christmas and New Year, holidays.
Dr. J. N. Findlay, who is coming from England to take up an appointment as professor of philosophy at the University of Otago, will arrive at Auckland by the Lurllne on February 9. Mr. S. W. M. Stilling, representative in New Zealand of the Australian National Travel Association, left for Auckland last night. He will return on Friday to catch the Wanganella for Sydney.
Dr. A. G. B. Fisher, professor of economics at Otago University, has been granted a year’s leave of absence to allow of his accepting an appointment as economic adviser to the Bank of New South Wales. Mr. L. A. Paish, his Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, and Mrs. Paish are proceeding to London, on urgent cabled instructions, by the Port Gisborne, which will leave Wellington on December 21.
Mr. Walter Nash, M.P. for Hutt, and Mrs, Nash will leave -for Napier this morning to attend the wedding of their eldest son to-morrow. They will return by the Napier express on Friday afternoon. . Mi 1 . James A. W. Grosser, late general manager of Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains, has joined the organisation of Messrs. Debenhams, of Wigmore Street, London, and has been appointed assistant manager and merchandise manager of Messrs. Adderly and Co., Ltd., of Leicester.
Mr. J- Hennessy, the Sydney architect, who was a visitor to Wellington recently, has returned to Australia on business. He will revisit Wellington in connection with the building of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society’s new offices, and the Prudential Assurance Company’s new premises about the middle of January.
