Fine Imposed on User The illegal use of fruit machines, which ' was the basis of charges against three men in the Police Court recently, led to a fourth man, Albert Edward ' Duncan, aged 44 years, painter, being fined £5, with costs 10/-, by Mr. E. Page, S.M., yesterday on the charge that being the occupier of the Artcraft billiard saloon, 30 Molesworth Street, the defendant did use the premises as a common gaming house. Duncan, who pleaded guilty, was allowed one month in. which, to Revell said that the machines were looked upon as gambling machines and for that reason were barred in several other countries. The question of an order being made for the confiscation of the machines by the'police was adjourned by Mr. Page to enable the Crown Law office to. argue the right and desirability of the court making such an order.
