SLANDER ALLEGED
Judgment for Defendant PARTIAL PRIVILEGE By Telecranh. —Press Association Christchurch, December 14. An incident at the October meeting ■of the Aranui Burgesses’ Association resulted in an action for alleged slander which was heard in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The plaintiff, Victor Herbert Bremner, schoolmaster, claimed £5O damages from James Taylor Dickie, a salesman. The plaintiff alleged that at the meeting the defendant falsely and maliciously spoke and published of the plaintiff, who was treasurer of the social committee, the following words: “If it is any information for you, I have seen Mr. Bremner’s books, and they are not in order.” The plaintiff alleged that the defendant laid great •stress on the word “not.”
The magistrate gave judgment for defendant, saying he was satisfied the occasion on which the words complained of were spoken was covered by partial privilege.
