BISHOPRIC OF NELSON
Offer to Canon Hilliard NOT YET ACCEPTED (Received December 14, 11.50 p.m.) Sydney, December 14. Advice has been received by Canon W. |G. Hilliard, headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, Dulwich Hill, that he has been unanimously selected as Bishop of Nelson, New Zealand, in succession to Bishop Sa&lier. Canon Hilliard, who is regarded as one of the most popular evangelicals in the Anglican Church life of Australia, is a forceful and convincing preacher with a distinct appeal to young people. He stated to-day that he had not yet begun to think about the offer from Nelson owing to being in the thick of his speech-day preparations.
