Vice-Regal.

The Governor-General, who was accompanied by Lady Bledisloe, was pieeent last evening at the annual prizegiving ceremony at Wellington College. His Excellency presented the prizes and delivered an address.

Mr. E. Goodbehere has been appointed a member of the Licensing Committee for the district of Orona. Mr. .J. D. Mating, Christchurch, leaves by the Rotorua to-day to enter Sandhurst Military College. Mr. George Ellwood, the well-known ’cellist, and Mrs. Ellwood leave for England by the Rotorua this morning.

Dr. and Mrs. J. Hitching, of Cobham, Surrey (England), are at present the guest's of Sir Henry and Lady Wigram at. Christchurch. Mrs. Kitching is Lady Wigram’s sister. Mr. D. E. Gibbard, 8.A., LL.M., Dannevirke, was yesterday admitted as a notary public in the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, on the application of Mr. P. H. Putnam. Colonel J. L. Frazerhurst, V.D., M.A., M.D., F.R.1.P.H., honorary physician to the Governor-General, N.Z. Medical Corps, is to continue his appointment as Director of Medical Services until November 30,1934. Dr. F. Bowerbank, who has been appointed an associate member of the Wellington Free Ambulance Board, was welcomed to the meeting of the board yesterday morning by the president, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood.

Lady Luke, 0.8. E., William Irving, JI D (Cantub.), Francis William JlcLean, . M.lnst.C.E., and Frederick Castle, J.P., have been reappointed as members of the Board of Health, and John Alexander C.M.G., has also been appointee! to the'board. Mr. L. R. Spring, of the Christchurch staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., is being transferred, on promotion, to the company’s Auckland branch, where he will be assistant-accountant. He will leave for the north this week.

Dr. Garth Stoneham, senior house stirgeon at the Wellington.. Hospital, has resigned from his position, and will complete his duties on December 22. Dr. Stoneham was recently awarded the Auckland travelling scholarship for obstetrics for 1933. Mr. W. D. Hensell, of Jlelibourne, official bowl tester to the Australian Bowling Association, who has been on a tour of New Zealand, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. He leaves by the Jlonowai to-day for Sydney.

Mr. J. K. Cunninghame, son of Mr. J. R. Cunninghame, of Newton, is among the medical students who have passed the final examination for the degrees of J 1.8., Ch.B., at the University of Otago. Dr. Cunninghame will join the staff of the Wellington Public Hospital in the New Year. Jlr. JI. H. Fougere, of the staff of the Defence Department, Christchurch, who has been appointed accountant to the Central Command, has taken up his new duties. Before his departure from Christchurch, Jlr. Fougere was met by his colleagues and presented with a suitcase.

Captain James Murray, D. 5.0., formerly ‘‘The Times” and Reuter’s correspondent in Stockholm, and now visiting the Dominion in the interests of the two Stockholm newspapers “Dagens Nyheter” and “Svenska Dagbladet,” lunched at Government House yesterday. The Chief Justice, Sir .Michael Myers, has appointed Jlr. Justice Reed, Jlr. Justice Jla.cGregor, Jlr. Justice Ostler, Jlr. Justice Blair, Jlr. C. H. Treadwell, and Jlr. H. H. Cornish, of Wellington, and Jlr. W. J. Sim, of Christchurch, to be members of the rules committee pursuant to section 2 of the Judicature Act. Jlr. Edward Oscar Sheild, LL.B., has been awarded the first Hadfield scholarship to be given for a theological student to proceed to au English university. Jlr. Sheild lias been a lay reader at St. Jlark’s Church for some time. He will proceed to England next July to enter into residence at an English university’ in October.
