The mothers of the small-candidates In Wanganui’s recent baby carnival were entertained by the committee of the Plunket Society at afternoon tea at the conclusion of the monthly meeting. The winner, Baby Ruth Henson,was presented with a silver spoon and serviette ring and enlarged photograph of herself. All the other babies also received silver spoons and ’photographs.•’ Many friend? of the Wanganui Girls’ College were present at the sixth form play held in the assembly, hall on tVednesday evening.. The play was called “Lilies of the Field,” and the players were J. Carver, E. Erwin, S. Paul. P. Gibbons, E. Carrel, R. Jackson, J. McColl, B. Holst, and J. Anderson. The school orchestra under Miss D. HughcSJohnson supplied the incidental music. Mesdames I. E. Newton and E. Cros-’-bie were hostesses at a farewell parry given In honour of Mrs. W. G. Blackie, who will leave shortly for . Auckland. The party was held, in ..Mrs, Newton’s ■new home on-St.-John's Hill, and ii pleasant afternoon was spent with music and a book title competition.Songs were.suiig.by?Mrs. J?. Lewis and Mrs. G. Wall, and a ’cello solo played by Miss Edna.. Naujnann. The accompaniments were played by’Miss E. Newton. During the afternoon Mrs. Blackie was presented with a handbag and bouquet from her friends. Mr. Blackie, who has been appointed chief inspector of schools in Auckland, left Wanganui some time ago. To farewell the Rev. H. Lindsay and Mrs. Lindsay, of the Wanganui Collegiate School staff, who will leave,for England shortly, a pleasant social evening was held by members of Christ Church. Handsome rugs were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay, and the opportunity was also taken to farewell Mr. Ivar Dorum. who will leave shortly for Melbourne.
