WHAT WOMEN WANT
Learned Professor’s Views
Reuter—Special to “The Dominion." “A woman, a dog, and a walnut tree, “Tlie more you beat them the better they be.”
Professor Henry Edward Armstrong is Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at the City and Guilds College, South Kensington.
He is 85, and has very strong views about women—modern women. He thinks they are unintelligent. He says they make bad wives.
Speaking to a friend of mine this week, the Professor denounced girls who neglect their homes aud husbands. He declared —though there was a suspicion of a twinkle in his eye as he said it —that the only way to bring some women to their senses was—a good thick stick! “Bring back the stick!” he said, “and whack it inro them. The women are worse than the men, and they want more whacking. They want a stick to whack them back into their nomas.” Yet the Professor himself has singularly little cause for complaint. He was married in 1877, celebrated bis golden wedding in 1927, and has seven children and fourteen grandchildren.
