AFTER FORTY YEARS

Mr. G. E. Sadd Farewelled Mr. G. E. Sadd, chief elerk of tne Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, who is retiring after 40 years in the Public Service, was entertained at morning tea by the combined staffs of the Research Department, Dominion Laboratory, Dominion Observatory, Geological Survey Office, and the Meteorological Office, at Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains’ Jacobean Room. The function was presided over by Dr. E. Marsden, who referred to Mr. Sadd’s fine record in various Government departments, and particularly to the valuable work he had done as chief clerk and accountant to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research since its inception. Mr. Sadd’s loyalty, his sound knowledge of procedure, his thoughtfulness and courtesy made all who had been in any way associated with him greatly regret his departure. Messrs. W. E. Arnold, Government Life Insurance Department, and E. S. Innes, ■ Chief Audit Inspector, also eulogised Mr. Sadd, who had been their colleague in other departments. Dr. Marsden, in tendering to Mr. Sadd the best wishes of the combined staffs for the future, presented to him a Westminster chiming clock, and to Mrs. Sadd a salad bowl. Mr. Sadd stated that he was_ deeply touched by the kindly references which had been made to him, and he was keenly appreciative of the ready assistance which those assembled had always accorded him during his years of service. He felt the break which retirement involved, but would carry with him many very pleasant recollections. Both Mrs. Sadd and he greatly appreciated tjie handsome presents which they had just received, and he thanked all for these and for their kind wishes on their behalf.
