BRITAIN’S AIR FORCE
Increase Planned for 1934 DEFENCE OF SINGAPORE London, December 12. The “Yorkshire Post’s” aeronautical correspondent says that provided the international situation is unchanged, the Royal Air Force will be increased by four squadrons of about fifty aeroplanes In 1934, three squadrons for Home defence and the other for overseas. Already Home defence has been reduced by one squadron which left for Singapore last week. It is significant that aerial strategists regard the Scottish manoeuvres on September 15 as bearing on Singapore responsibilities. If an emergency arose in the Far East the extent to which the defence would be entrusted to the air arm would be dependent on the effectiveness of operations similar to those visualised in the Firth of Forth.
