Colonel G. H. Davis, a retired Indian Army officer, arrived at Auckland from England by the Tainui on his second visit to New Zealand for the fishing. Mr. J. M. Niall, of Melbourne, chairman of directors and managing director of Goldsbrough, Mort and Company and a leading Victorian grazier, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara on a holiday visib to New Zealand. Major W. Willoughby-Winlaw, late of the Royal Engineers, was a passenger on the Tainui, which arrived at Auckland from England on Monday, After a short stay in New Zealand, he will continue his world tour via Sydney.
..' The Rev. A. K. Warren, of Waimate, has bean appointed vicar of St. Mary’s parish, Merivale, Christchurch, in succession to the Ven. Archdeacon P. B. Haggitt, who will retire at) the end of January. Mr. J. Ferguson,’secondary assistantmaster on the staff of the Greytown District High School, has been selected from a large number of applicants to take charge of the secondary depart)ment of the Boys’ Grammar School, Suva, Fiji. Mr. Ferguson will sail for ,Fiji early in the New Year. Mr. C. W. Collins, of Christchurch, who for the past two years has been travelling in the United States of America and Great. Britain studying library methods under a Carnegie scholarship, arrived in Wellington yesterday from Auckland and left again last night for the south. Mr. W. A. Gatheridge, late of the staff of C. Begg and Co., and organist of St. Thomas’s Church, Wellington South, is leaving for Sydney by the Monowai to-morrow to connect with the Oronsay for London. Mr. Gatheridge intends to continue his musical studies at Home. He anticipates being away for at least nine months.
