A good haul of small sprats and a large crop of mussels were obtained when the water was pumped out of Calliope Dock, Auckland, where 11.M.5. Philomel, training and depot ship of the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy, is undergoing cleaning and overhaul. When the vessel was on the blocks the cleaning of mussels and other shellfish from the hull was commenced. The shellfish and the sprats left imprisoned in the dock will be taken away in barges and dumped at sea. The Philomel’s bottom is to be given a fresh coating of tar. Estate valued at £9579. with net personally £5602. was left by Mr. Alfred Leele, the artist who drew the famous Kitchener recruiting poster, “Your King and Country Need You.”
