One of the annual functions arranged by the Canterbury Automobile Association is to give an outing to tlie inr ates of tlie city orphanages and on Saturday afternoon between 600 and 700 children were taken in 150 ears belonging to members of the association to Waikuku beach. Races and ainiisenients of various kinds were arranged for the entertainment of the ebildreti, and the club members who] had hoped to add a little extra brightness to the children’s lives saw (heir hopes fulfilled. The outing was a joyful success. Toys and sweets were distributed among the children who returned to the city a tired but. happy throng. During the afternoon the Mayor (Mr. I). G. Sullivan. M.P.) congratulated the members of the association on the success uf their efforts.
