TAKAPUNA TO-DAY

Final Track Efforts

REVIEW OF FIELDS

Dominion Special Service Auckland, December 1. Rain has fallen in Auckland to-day and the weather outlook for the opening ot the Takapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting to-morrow is very doubtful. The course proper at Takapuna was very fast this morning and some smart gallops were recorded by visiting candidates for the meeting. The poles were out 30 feet and the. horses were timed from the (discs that are used for timing when the poles are further out, so that the horses were actually going a little short of the distances mentioned. Boughal was seen to advantage in beating King Mestor by six lengths five furlongs in Iniin. 14-ssec. Boughal has won twice in three starts and, although he will be up against stronger opposition in the Takapuna Plate, ne should not be disgraced. Paganelli ran right away from Lagoon over half a mile in 47 2-ssec., Lagoon taking 48 2-ssec. Paganelli is in good heart and should go well in the , races, but his prospects may be affected if the going is soft, as he does not relish such conditions. Lagoon’s effort was quite satisfactory for a maiden. Mungatoon covered five furlongs comfortably in Imin. 32-ssec. He is well and should run prominently in the Alison Cup. , , , ~ British Columbia placed five furlongs behind in Imin. 4 3-ssec., the last halfmile in 50 3-ssec. He was lame afterward and may be a doubtful starter tomorrow. .„ , The Alison Cup horses, Alloy, and Master Norval, both worked usefully and look well. , There appears to be some doubt about Speedmint starting in the Alison Cup. Her trainer, P. E. Pope, stated this morning that she would not run if the ground was hard. However, Speedmint will be solidly supported if started. Kiltowyn is also an unlikely runner in the Takapuna Plate. The following scratchings were Posto“ to-day:—Takapuna Plate, Rnri, —lo p.m.; D’Artagnan. 2.15 p.m.; Tondaleyo, 3.45 p.m.: My Money, 3.80 p.m.; Gold Pocket. 11.55 a.m. Alison Cup, Value* less, 4.20 p.m. Cambria Handicap, Seven Seas. \ ■ , , Horses likely to be solidly supported in their engagements include: — Noon—Melrose Maiden: Alignment, Pelagia, Lagoon. 12.42 p.m.—Spring Handicap: Bambury, Paganelli, Greek Gold. 1.26 p.m.—Ponui Handicap: Sunny Bachelor, Gay Bironey, Expectancy. 2.12 p.m,—Alison Cup': Mungatoon, Palm Queen, Alloy. . 2.55 p.m.—Cambria Handicap: High Crest, Gay Blonde, Waitaka. 3.44 p.m.—Takapuna Plate: Rereatu, Lucidus, Tavern Knight. 4.23 p.m.—Tiri Highweight: Courthaven, Wee Pat, Free Air. 5.10 p.m.—Cheltenham Handicap: Prolyxo, Paganelli, Whakapara.
