WANGANUI NOTES

The committee of the Wanganui Ladies’ Golf Club arranged picture and bridge parties on Saturday night for the visiting golfers to the New Zealand tournament. Bridge was played at the Lady Jelllcoe Club rooms, and the picture party joined the bridge players for supper afterwards. Some 70 guests were present. The committee of the AAangannl branch of the British Drama League entertained Aliss Helen Gard’ner, of Wellington, who acted as adjudicator at the recent festival, at morning tea, prior to her return. Several of the producers were also present. The October meeting of the AVanganui Arts Club was held at Aliss Al. Stevens’s home on Saturday evening. Mrs. H. Veitch and Miss Stevens read short stories and poems, published and unpublished, of which they were the authoresses, and Mr. T. AV. Downes gave a recitation. A delightful supper concluded the evening. At the October meeting of the AVanganui branch of the' Plunket .Society, it was decided to again run a baby carnival. Previous efforts have always been very successful, and as Plunket funds are low, it is hoped that the November effort will be equally fortunate. Dr. Alollie Christie has been invited to fill Dr. Helen Deem’s place on the lion, medical board of the Stewart Karitane Home, AVanganui, and Dr. Helen Topham to give the lectures.
