MR. BRUCE ACCEPTS
Australian High Commissioner
Canberra, October 13.
In the House of Representatives the Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in formally announcing Mr. Bruce’s acceptance of the High Commissionership, said that Mr. Bruce was at all times free to make his own choice of appointments. Mr. Bruce had intimated that he was prepared to serve Australia in any capacity. He even concurred in the opinion that there was much more important work to do in London. The Commonwealth Ministry was fully seized of his distinguished services both to Australia and the Empire, and the Ministry was anxious that he should continue the work he had been doing in London, on which the conversations had been of the frankest and friendliest description, but: it was thought undesirable to continue the office of Resident Minister indefinitely.
