New Zealander Signs On
Dominion Special Service
Auckland, October 13.
Among the personnel of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition is Mr. Russell Robinson, a young New Zealander, who has been living in New York with his parents, and who has signed on the Bear as a mechanic. Mr. Robinson is 22 years of age, and was born at Stratford, but was taken by bis parents first to Australia and then to the United States, where his father, Sir. E. H. Robinson, is in business as an export purchasing agent. He is a capable draughtsman, and has completed a four-year course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in designing and building aeroplanes, securing a first-class diploma. No opening offering for his talents, he has joined the expedition for the adventure and experience, and is now coming south in (lie Bear.
He is a grandson of Mr. R. H. Robinson. of Remuera, and of Mr. E. C. Shepherd, of Stanley Bay, Auckland.
