More Old-time Steps
SOME COMING EVENTS

Despite the fact that the dancing season is more or les® over, so far as Wellington is concerned, there will be little cessation in activities for some time yet. The approaching Confidence Carnival will usher in another week of gaieties, prominent among which will be dances, the most important being the Old Colonial Ball and a Poster Ball.
Since requests have been forthcoming for further descriptions of "old-time” dances, the following should prove of interest to those who prefer these older steps. It must be borne in mind, however, that a good teacher is just as necessary to polish one up in these old dance® as in the newer steps. The Maxina.
Couple dance side by side, facing same direction. Gentleman takes lady’s left hand in his left hand and passes his right hand behind her waist to hold her right hand.
First movement: Three quick steps forward, commencing with left foot. Two steps alternately to left and right. Step forward with left foot, then again with right foot. Swing to right in semi-circle, with weight of body on right foot, left foot brought forward, with knee bent. Pointing right foot repeat above. Second movement: Place left heel on floor and hop on to ball of right foot, turning slightly. Repeat eight times until circle is completed. Third movement: Step forward with left foot. With right foot step forward, knee bent. Left foot forward.- heel on floor. Swing left foot backward, toe on floor. Repeat above. Fourth movement: Two-step alternately to left and right. Take two steps forward on left and right feet. Pointing left foot forward, pause. Then lady turns and faces gentleman. ’ Fifth*movement: Waltz for four bars or two-step four times. The Valetta.
In the Valetta the couple dance side by side. (1) Commencing with left foot, do three steps of waltz walk; repeat with right foot. (2) Step forward with left foot, draw right up with heel raised and toe pointed down; repeat. (3) Holding partner as in waltz, do two bars of waltz. . . (4) Resume side by side position; repeat figure (2) ; do four bars of waltz. Cabaret and Studio.

Tommy Stratton’s Dance Band plays the latest dance hits, and specialty features are preGwenethe Walshe provides personal and individual tuition in the modern dances, including the rumba, fro “ 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Evening classes are held twice weekly, the beginners class being on Friday, and the advanced on Tuesday. .
