Coy.; runner-up, Pte. F. Gillians, C (10 Pl.) Coy. The season has been a very successful one. There is no doubt that the club has improved the shooting of recruits when taken on to the long range to carry out their service shoot. This was proved on the range last week-end by the good results obtained. Last week-end the N.C.O.’s of C and D Coys, of the Hawke’s Bay Regt, attended a tactical course under Capt. J. C. Holmes. Various tactical schemes were gone through, and a very instructive and interesting day was spent. It is intended to have more of these classes before the annual camp. On the 15th of last month the members of the Wellington East Mounted Rifles held a military ball at Norsewood, and are to be congratulated on its success. The duties of M. were capably carried out by Sergt. Ellingham. Lieut. Selby, on behalf of his troop, thanked everybody for. the splendid patronage accorded their dance. He said it was their intention to make the function an annual affair. N. Club.

The committee of the N.C.O.’s club desires to take this opportunity of informing the N.C.O.’s of units outside Wellington that the club rooms in Wellington are open to any N.C.O. of any unit should he happen to be in Wellington at any time. Furthermore, the committee would like to mention that the club is producing a monthly magazine, ■ and should any of those outside, units be desirous of having notes of units’ functions published, or other articles or reports of a military nature, the committee is only too willing to have these included. Communications should be addressed to the “Secretary, Wellington Garrison N.C.O.’s Club, Garrison Hall, Buckle Street, ’Wellington.” In connection with the guest nights now being run by the club, a further meeting was held on Friday, October o, the units represented being Central Depot, N.Z. Signallers, and 2nd Field Coy.. N.Z. Engineers. In both basketball and shooting the signallers were victorious, thus gaining 20 points for the club s sports shield. The basketball was won bv default, while the result of the shooting was: N.Z. Signallers, 264; N.Z. Engineers, 218. A team from the N.C.O.’s club also fired the same practice, their score being 301. The best individual scores of the evening were Sig-, nalman French (N.Z. Signallers) 50, and Sergt. Hogan (N.C.O.’s club) possible in both cases being 75. .
