An Italian who rescued several injured people from the ruins of St. John’s Cathedral, Napier, after the earthquake, and who has not been in a position to pay instalments of the unemployment levy as they fell due, has been granted exemption from practically all payments owing by him. This action was taken by the Inspector of Factories, in conjunction with the department, after having made full inquiries aind been satisfied that the man concerned had been honestly endeavouring to meet his obligations.
