Renown Collieries Limited, which has recently effected a capital amalgamation with Wilton Collieries Limited, made a loss of £3350 during the year ended July 31. This compares with a profit of £434 in the previous year. The report states that during the year there ,was an almost continuous coal war in which coal sold at prices considerably below costs. The debit of £3446 is being carried forward.

The United Permanent Building and Investment Society of Auckland shows a net profit of £6046, compared with £6830 earned in the previous year. The directors propose the payment of a final dividend of 2} per cent., making 5 per cent, for the year, and transferring £lOOO to the reserve fund, making this fund £lB,OOO. The balance carried forward is £lOl2, compared with, £BB6 brought into the accounts.
