FAREWELL GATHERING

Rev. & Mrs. W. G. Carpenter

The departure of the Rev. W. G. Carpenter to take up the pastorate of the Church of Christ, Onehunga, was made the occasion of a happy meeting of his fellow-workers of the Te Aro Flat relief committee, in the Red Room. at the Ritz this week, when he and Mrs. Carpenter were the recipients of numerous good wishes. The Rev. J. R. Blanchard, the chairman of the function, expressed his sincere appreciation of his association with Mr. Carpenter in the work of assisting those of their fellows whom circumstances, he hoped but temporarily, had placed in need of assistance. He felt, further that the Inter-Church Association had done much to bring into being many fine friendships making for unity in a. common Christian cause. In this work both Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter had played. very important parts. He trusted in the days to come they might still be priviliged to hear on occasion the sound of the voice so much endeared to Wellington “listeners-ih” as that of “Uncle George.” Further speakers included Mrs. A. McVicar, Mr. T. E. Corkill, Rev. N. E. Winhall, and Mr. A. G. Cummins. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter suitably responded, stating that both would carry away happy memories of their Wellington residence, and in particular their association with those present.
