Douglas Credit
Sir, —The Leader of the Labour Party, Mr. M. J. Savage, is reported in the daily Press as having said in the House yesterday:—“The Douglas Credit people want to control the credit and currency of this country.” The Douglas Credit people desired to do the same iu England, and the British Labour Party there appointed a committee to report ou rhe proposals of Major 'Douglas. The committee included:— Sydney Webb, R. J. Davies. M.P.. Frank Hodges, F. B. Varley, all of the National executive, together with G. D. H. Cole (author of “Guide Through World Chaos”), Hugh Dalton. J. A. Hobson (author of “Poverty and Plenty,” etc.), C. M. Lloyd, Sir Leo Chiozza Money, R. H. Tawney (author of “Studies on the Minimum Wage,” etc.). The committee, whose report was adopted by the Labour Party executive and published in April last year, made a thorough investigation, and came to the conclusion that “The constructive proposals based upon this theory seem to us as unstable as the theory itself.” and that “In our judgment tlie Age scheme is theoretically unsound and unworkable in practice.”—l am. etc.. SCRUTATOR.
