Taranaki Street Circuit

Reports presented at the quarterly meeting of the Taranaki Street Methodist Circuit, at which the Rev. T. R. Richards presided, showed that the adult membership of the circuit was: Taranaki Street, 379; - Brooklyn, 133; Webb Street, 18; Are Street, 41; total, 571.

On behalf of the committee set up at the last meeting to consider the finances of the circuit, Mr. L. J. Clarke reuorted that several economies had been effected during the quarter. The new local youth secretary, Mr. E. L. Howe, gave a report upon the youth work at Wesley. He said it was very encouraging to find the Endeavour Society progressing under its new leader, Miss Kain. The boys’ club, run during the winter, had done good work. The Senior Young Women’s Bible Class had twice recently presented the religious play, “For He had Great Possessions.” Reference was made to the intended reunion of teachers and scholars of Wesley Sunday School. It was decided to place on record ■the grateful appreciation of the meeting for the excellent work and services of Mr. W. E. Howe as superintendent of the Sunday school, and to those associated with him in the recent anniversary celebrations. The Rev. Mr. Keall introduced Mr. Bert Reynolds, who advises that the youth work at Brooklyn was progressing very satisfactorily, mention being made of the Young Worshippers’ League and the Sunday school. Messrs. Clarke, Skinner, and Herron were appointed delegates to the coming Synod. It was the unanimous wish of the meeting to invite the Rev. T. R. and Mrs. Richards for a sixth year at Taranaki Street Mr. Richards had intimated that he would be retiring from the ministry in April, 1935, and several speakers expressed the hope that next year would be the best year of his ministry. It was decided to hold the next meeting on January 15.
