INTER-CLUB TOURNEY

Anglican Girls’ Society

An important event in connection with the Anglican Girls’ Club Society was held on Wednesday evening in Urn Sydney Street schoolroom, this being the annual interclub tournament. There was an enthusiastic gathering, among those present being Mesdames Sprott (president of the club), Hansell, Wallis, Gaby, Murdoch and Miss Watson. . The names of the clubs taking part were: The Wellington City Anglican Young Women’s, St- Mark’s, St. Mary’s, Karori (senior and junior), St. Cuthbert’s (Berhampore), St. Aidan’s (Miramar), and All saints (Kilbirnie). The tournament comprised competitions in plain and fancywork, cooking, knitting, crochet work and toys. Wellington City Club was successful in winning the banner for gaining the highest number of points, St. Mary’s (Karori) being the runners-up; and St Mary’s (junior) won the banner for the junior section. Miss I. Leonard (Wellington City) was the winner of the cup for the highest number of points in the cooking section, and Miss Young (St. Mary’s, Karori) won the senior trophy for the handwork. Miss Thornton (Wellington City) won the trophy for the junior section In cooking, while Miss D. Butter (St. Mary's, Karori) was successful in winning the trophy for junior handwork. The work of the judges, Mesdames Baker and Clark (cooking), Blythe (knitting and crochet work), Miss Page (fancywork and toys), and Mrs. Preston (plain sewing) was greatly appreciated by the society. Music and elocutionary items were given during the evening by Miss Stone (St Aidan’s), pianoforte solo; Misses Wilkinson (St. Cuthbert’s), Murray (Wellington City), and McKinlay, songs; and Miss Ellison (Wellington City), recitation.
