OBITUARY
Mr. E. S. Bowden The,death has occurred of Mr. Ernest Somerset Bowden, son of the Rev. T. A. Bowden, an early headmaster of Wellington College, aged 79 years. Mr. Bowden was found dead in a waterhole on his section at the Glen, Wakapuaka, Nelson. Mr. Bowden was born in England, and came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship John Phillips in 1855. He received his secondary education in Wellington, and subsequently . opened a stationer’s shop in Christchurch, this business being later bought by Messrs. Whitcombe and Tombs. For a period, also, he was school teaching, and he retired some years ago. Mr. Bowden, was a brother of Mr. Walter Bowden, of Nelson, Mrs. Burrell, of Tahunanui, and Mrs. A. Strachan, of Ngatimoti. He is survived by five daughters and one son. Mr. Bowden’s father was educated at Oxford and was inspector of schools. He was also one of those responsible for the establishment of . the old Bishop’s School at Nelson. Kir. F. A. Tregurtha Mr. Frederick Albert Tregurtha, for 30 years in the service of Messrs. Isaac Clark and Son, building contractors, and for the last 24 years‘foreman, died on Wednesday morning. He was a son of the late Mr. Richard Tregurtha, well known in the New Zealand lighthouse service, and father of Mr. Clarence Tregurtha, of the Education Department at Wellington. During a long period he was an official and trustee of the Thorndon Methodist Church, and was also a member of Antipodean Lodge of Oddfellows, being one of their sick visitors. At the time of his death he was president of the Lodges’ Hospital - Association.
