SCHOOL STAGES PLAY

“The Forgotten Kingdom” An entertainment of much merit was given on Saturday night by pupils of Chilton St. James School, Lower Hutt, in the school hall. It took the form of a musical fairy play, entitled “The Forgotten Kingdom,” which was written by Miss N. V. Mason. The music was composed by Miss Benbow, who led the orchestra of teachers and pupils. There were seven scenes and many characters. The scenes were all excellent in detail and general effect and lighting. All. the players were scholars and without exception did well, and the voice of the prompter was never heard, showing thorough rehearsal and study.

Judging by the “book’ of the play, the author had studied the stage and had experience in play writing. Dialogue and libretto contained brilliant dramatic and witty passages, and the whole idea of the play, of a forgotten kingdom where time was unknown, appealed to the audience, who insisted on encores, and at the close of the performance called for the authors, Miss Mason and Miss Benbow, who responded and received bouquets and applause. Miss Fitzgerald, principal of the ■ school, welcomed parents and other guests, and Mr. Maurice Denniston act‘ed as doorkeeper.
