Conditions Are Improving
Conditions generally in South Australia promised well for the future, said Mr. L. G. Sweeney, on his arrival by the Makura yesterday to take control in New Zealand of the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company, Ltd. Mr. Sweeney said that he had noticed for some time before he left a decided improvement in the economic and financial conditions in the State.
There appeared to be a little better demand for property, which was a very reliable sign of improvement of conditions. There had been a very fine “opening” for the coming season’s crops, and last month was the wettest May experienced for about 50 years, a very happy circumstance, so far as the farming community was concerned. Politically things were stable. There had been no changes or upheavals, and none seemed Imminent. People took things quietly and looked forward to the future with hope and calm determination.
